Since two episodes have gone up since my last post, I'll write about both this time. I would also have written about the first episode of the Fantasy High live stream, but they had to move the stream a week up.
First, I'll talk about episode eleven: "Home for the Holidays." This episode was a roleplay one, and it went for my emotions. First off, Sofia burning down her house for insurance fraud was insane; I can't tell if it is almost at the level of Fig's doctor disguise or if it's crazier than that. Then Ricky swimming from Manhatten to Staten Island (which is 6 MILES by the way) to go put out said fire just continued the insane train.
Pete and Kingston having Christmas together just warmed my heart, I love their father-son type relationship. Pete getting a giant sweater and a zebra-print cowboy hat ups how ridiculous his character design is in the first place.
Of course, Murph had to emotionally ruin us by having Kugrash try to talk to his son David. Him saying, "I'm your dad!" but David not being able to hear him was really heartbreaking. Though Kug as a scrappy dog playing with his grandkids was kinda cute but still really sad. This episode was adorable and super sad, all at the same time. Brennan and Emily's Christmas sweaters looked really cute.
It is kinda weird to have a Christmas episode in the middle of September, but since they filmed this series so far ahead, it can slide.
Next up is episode 12: "Broadway Brawl." This episode had so much math, and a bunch of weird homebrew rules, that it could be a bit hard to follow sometimes, but it was entertaining. This episode really took the slight insanity from the last episode and upped it to 100%. It really was like a fever dream watching this, and everyone was just trying to make it even weirder.
This whole play secretly being a ritual for Misty's continual resurrections/rebirths was an exciting concept that I hadn't considered earlier in the series. Everyone having to make performance checks so that the audience could believe that the battle was a play was really fun and a mechanic I hope they bring back. Kingston calmly walking from the box seats to the stage while everyone else jumped was such a cute little touch to his character. Ricky saying, "I think I know how plays work," then getting completely naked and staying naked throughout the entire fight was madness. Sofia putting on a cute fairy costume and then beating the crap out of Titania was such a fun image.
Let's talk about Stephen Sondheim. He seemed like just a fun background character before then fight. Then he gets kidnapped and becomes a big priority. Sondheim then rides Kugrash who is in the form of a bear, have that bear throw him up to the catwalk, then kill and dramatically mourn a pixie who kidnapped him. I just, don't know what else to say about this strange sequence of events.
These episodes were terrific, but I can't wait for the next one. I'm fascinated with what Misty's new form will look like and how that will affect the current team dynamic. Hopefully, the Fantasy High stream will happen this Wednesday and not get pushed back again; make sure to check it out at Dropout's twitch channel! Next blog will be about this week and next week episodes most likely, so stay tuned for that!
